The Zodiac tour can be bumpy and is not recommended for individuals with back problems, heart conditions, or for those who are pregnant.
As soon as we arrive in Prince Rupert, we will be shuttled by bus to the Digby Island Dock. Here, we will put on our zodiac suits (a one-piece weatherproof, insulated suit). There is no bathroom at the dock or on board the zodiac so make sure to use the bathrooms on the plane prior to landing or at the airport prior to getting on the shuttle. The zodiac is 26’ long, and seats our group of 12 guests. It travels at high speeds, up to 60 km/hr, and can be chilly, so we recommend packing a toque and gloves. The vessel can safely operate in conditions of up to 2 meter waves and/or 32 knot winds. The itinerary may be adjusted if there is inclement weather. The rest of our day will be at a slower pace! -
There are suits ranging from XS to 3XL. The minimum size requirement is 100 lbs and a 30" chest, while the maximum is 350 lbs and a 58" chest.
-
The Zodiac is not wheelchair accessible. Guests walk down a ramp to the dock which can be quite steep at low tide. Staff can assist those with minor physical limitations to step aboard the boat as the tubes of the boat are roughly level with the dock. Getting into the full-body Zodiac suits can be quite challenging for guests with physical mobility limitations.
The rest of the tour involves climbing stairs to board the aircraft, buses, and the trolley, and walking for moderate distances to explore the sights. Please reach out to us if you have specific questions or concerns.
-
We are exploring nature, so we can never guarantee sightings. A lot depends on the season, tides, and time of day. Depending on the day, you may see eagles, ravens, herons or other seabirds, plus harbour seals and sea lions. On occasion, you may also see orcas, dolphins, porpoises, humpbacks, minke, or grey whales.
-
Classic Canadian Tours does not provide travel insurance. If you would like to purchase travel insurance, we suggest you first check with your credit card company, as it may be offered on purchases made with your credit card. Travel insurance may also be purchased through your car, home insurance provider, or travel insurance company, such as Travel Guard. Trip cancellation and interruption insurance will ensure that you are covered if you cannot make the trip for a personal reason, such as illness or if your trip is interrupted for an unforeseen reason, such as weather. If you do not have extended health benefits, travel medical insurance will pay upfront costs not covered by Provincial Healthcare, such as evacuation. Only your insurance provider can let you know your exact coverage.

Highs in Prince Rupert from late May to early July typically range between 8–16°C, though conditions on the water can feel cooler, and weather can change quickly and frequently. We recommend dressing in comfortable layers and bringing a rain shell so you can layer up or down depending on the weather.
-
You will be fishing with Black Tide Adventures who will be providing all of your fishing gear, coolers, and salt ice for packing fish. Please dress in warm layers, and ensure all guests have purchased a B.C. Tidal Waters Sport Fishing License with a salmon conservation stamp for all guests.
-
While on the fishing charter, we will mainly target salmon, halibut, rock cod and ling cod. There are five species of Pacific salmon, and there are stricter limits around what can be taken home, especially for Chinook Salmon as their population is decreasing. Sometimes the Department of Fisheries and Oceans changes limits mid-season to protect at risk salmon, and announcements can be last minute. Your fishing guide day-of will have all the up-to-date information around what you can catch and keep.

The areas we fish are partly protected and generally not prone to the large offshore swells that cause seasickness. If conditions are windy and the water is choppy, we move to sheltered islands and bays so we can still enjoy great fishing. If you are prone to seasickness, we recommend bringing your preferred anti-nausea medication just in case.
