Our 1-Day Polar Bear Safari is designed specifically to maximize opportunities to see polar bears during peak season in Churchill. This experience includes travel aboard a tundra buggy into the Churchill Special Wildlife Management Area, where access is restricted and protected for polar bears. The tundra buggies are able to travel across remote tundra terrain along the shores of Hudson Bay that regular vehicles cannot access, allowing for much closer and more frequent wildlife encounters.
This Churchill Town Tour focuses primarily on exploring the sights, history, and culture of Churchill. During the tour, we travel along Polar Bear Alley and other back roads around the area, so there is still a small chance of seeing polar bears, Arctic foxes, and other wildlife. However, wildlife viewing is secondary to the cultural and sightseeing experience, and regular road vehicles must remain much farther away from any bears that may be spotted.

Yes, you will be served breakfast on the airplane, lunch at the Ptarmigan restaurant in town, and a supper banquet served at the Churchill community centre. We recommend packing snacks.
-
In Churchill at this time of year, temperature can vary from -2˚C to -13˚C, but often strong winds can push the temperature down several more degrees (the ‘windchill’ factor). See our packing list for tips on what to wear to stay warm on the tour. We recommend checking the weather forecast in the days leading up to the tour so you can be well prepared.
-
A full packing list will be provided in your Expedition Package, 30 days prior to departure. Here are some of the items we recommend bringing:
Warm hooded parka
Snow/ski/wind pants
Long underwear or thermal layers
Warm sweater
Wool blend socks
Warm, rubber-soled winter boots
Warm gloves or mitts and thin gloves for operating your camera
Hat, scarf, neck warmer or similar gear to cover and protect your face and head against the cold north winds
Camera and extra camera batteries and memory card

We will join Dave Daley and his team for an educational talk about Dog Sledding, Métis Culture and life in Churchill Manitoba followed by an exhilarating dog sled ride through the boreal forest!
Dress for the weather, including a warm jacket, snow pants, and insulated winter boots. Plus, a warm toque, neck warmer, and gloves.
We will be dog sledding in polar bear country, so seeing a bear on the trail is not uncommon. Wapusk Adventures has procedures in place, as well as bear guards, to ensure our safety.
-
This day includes a lot of hopping on and off of airplanes and buses, plus there is some walking involved to explore the sights. The dog sledding is accessible, and there is an option to sit during the ride.
-
Visitors are not permitted inside the facility; however, we will have the opportunity to step out and take photos in front of the building, which features a beautiful polar bear mural. Our guides will also share insights about the facility and explain how it plays an important role in keeping both polar bears and the local community safe.
-
We charter a private jet for the flights to and from Churchill so you will check-in upon arrival at a private terminal at the YYC airport.
If you are booked on the tour, you will receive an Expedition Package 30 days prior to departure which will share directions to the terminal and a map for free parking. If you do not receive the Expedition Package, please reach out to us at info@classiccanadiantours.com.
