Sunday - The CapitalGuests arrive in Whitehorse, Yukon via Air North - Vancouver guests will arrive mid-afternoon while Calgary and Edmonton guests will arrive later in the evening (the half-day is made up on day 6 of the tour for the Alberta guests).
Use this free time to explore the historical 'Main Street' of Whitehorse and the Visitor Information Centre for a modern day look at the territory or visit the MacBride museum which highlights the overall history of the Yukon. Another interesting site to tour is the S.S. Klondike. This national historic site pays tribute to an important era of Yukon transportation - the riverboat. The S.S. Klondike is known as the largest and one of the last steamboats.
The Alberta guests will check into the hotel late evening upon arriving into Whitehorse.
Monday - The Beauty
In the morning we'll travel west on a guided tour of the Alaska Highway to Haines Junction - Gateway to the Kluane National Park. Enroute we will stop at the Long Ago Peoples Place in Champagne to learn about the native people of the Yukon and to enjoy the traditional bannack and coffee.
At the park visitor centre we will view a slideshow highlighting what the park has to offer. After lunch we'll drive through the park to Kathleen Lake taking time to explore the surroundings (a short walk to the lake), and enjoy a picnic lunch.
From Kluane National Park we'll depart for Whitehorse, stopping on the way for a walk up Rock Glacier and then a tour of the fish and water dam.
Tuesday - Alaska
Today you will have and early start for a guided tour south to the port of Skagway, Alaska. Enroute, we'll visit Carcross, Yukon - Home of the world's smallest desert which boasts a healthy population of over 70 species of plants. In Carcross you'll also find the Matthew Watson General Store - the oldest operating store in the Yukon.
Our next stop as we travel southward and touch upon the northwestern corner of British Columbia, will be in Fraser, B.C. Here we will board the White Pass train and take the stunning White Pass railway into Skagway. Known as "the scenic railway of the world" it was built in 1898 during the Klondike gold rush. You'll experience breathtaking views while the train chugs along the narrow gauge railway - deemed an International Historical Civil Engineering Landmark. A box lunch will be served aboard the train - All aboard!
We arrive in Skagway early afternoon where you'll have a few free hours to explore the many museums or shop at the plentiful local specialty shops. Modern day Skagway is an ocean cruise port and boast a busy main street. Our group will rendezvous late afternoon and we'll head to the Gold Rush cemetery - home of many infamous gold rush pioneers such as Soapy Smith known as the 'uncrowned king of Skagway' - a badman by trade.
Wednesday - The Klondike
Today you will check-out of your hotel in Whitehorse and board an Air North Flight to Dawson City- the Heart of the Klondike Gold Rush. There's plenty to do in Dawson City and with the midnight sun you'll have lots of time to get as much as you can in! Some attractions include: gold panning, taking a stroll down the historic main street, visiting one of the many museums or cultural centers, stopping by the Jack London interpretive centre, trying your luck and watching a show at the Diamond Tooth Gerties Gambling Hall and of course downing a famous Sour Toe Cocktail at night's end. This will surely be a day to remember.
Thursday - The Mystique
Early in the afternoon, you will depart from the hotel for the Dawson City airport to board the Air North flight to Whitehorse. Once in Whitehorse, you will have some free time to relax and have a nice dinner before the authentic Klondike show by the Frantic Follies at the Frantic Follies theatre in the evening. True Yukon entertainment.
Friday - The Yukon
In the morning, the Vancouver bound guests will check-in and depart for the Vancouver International Airport aboard Air North, Yukon's Airline.
Calgary and Edmonton bound guests will enjoy several more hours to visit more of Whitehorse – such as a walking tour of scenic and historic downtown or the MacBride Museum.
After a flight on Air North, guests will find themselves back in either Calgary or Edmonton by early evening.
